STIHL-Werk Air conditioning technology for modern office environments
BerlinerLuft. air conditioning units for new STIHL facility in Fellbach
The new STIHL facility in Fellbach opened this year after a construction period of almost two years. Due to their rapid growth and increasing sales, STIHL – the world’s market leader for chainsaws and other landscaping equipment – required additional office and production space. The new location is characterised by very modern office environments and meeting rooms that offer plenty of room for creativity. The workforce has access to a total of 9,400 m² of space over five floors and the company's own canteen.
Modern air conditioning as an integral task
The modern architectural concept also provided for an overall energy concept with regards to air, temperature, light and room climate. The principle task was to accomplish year-round energy-efficient ventilation (air exchange) and temperature control of the supply air, both for the office areas and the canteen. A powerful supply and exhaust air system was also required for the polluted exhaust air in the canteen kitchen. The entire ventilation and air conditioning system had to be perfectly matched to the existing building structure and the respective processes.
In cooperation with the client and the engineering office TGA-Plan GmbH Kinsch in Östringen, BerlinerLuft. Air Conditioning CompetenceCenter was commissioned with the planning and production of the ventilation and air conditioning systems.
Various versions of the HygCond central air conditioning units were used for air conditioning. This series is a modularly designed central air conditioning unit with all ventilation functions. Thanks to its flexible design, HygCond can be adapted to a wide range of conditions.
In the STIHL building, two different locations were planned to house the entire air conditioning system: Roof and basement. However, both the roof area and the technical room in the basement offered limited installation space. The units therefore had to be as compact as possible.
In addition to delivering a “feel-good” climate and high air quality , the energy efficiency of the entire system was also a priority. Here the BerlinerLuft. system comes into its own, with optimised unit design that achieves leakage class L1(M) in accordance with the type approval as per DIN EN 1886. In addition, during the planning stage, great importance was attached to compliance with the AHU energy efficiency classes and conformity with ErP 2018.
For the STIHL project, a total of five HyCond supply/exhaust air units with factory-integrated refrigeration technology including control system and a total cooling capacity of 170 kW were supplied. The hydraulic pump assemblies for the PWW reheaters were already installed during their manufacture in the BerlinerLuft. Air Conditioning CompetenceCenter in Bexbach. The end piping and cabling of the refrigeration technology was completed on site by the BerlinerLuft. service team.
The units supply the building with conditioned fresh air in flow rates from 7,000 to 25,400 m³/h.
Other ventilation components such as V2A and aluminium multi-leaf dampers, splitter silencers and 90° roof outlet cowls for the weatherproof units ensure energy-efficient, low-noise ventilation.
