Dortmunder U Ventilation towers as design elements
Innovation in the air
Between 2013 and 2015, a creative business centre was constructed in close proximity to the education centre in the former Dortmunder Union Brewery. As part of the overall technical design of the prestigious construction project, BerlinerLuft. planned and implemented the fresh air intake with four ventilation towers made of galvanised steel painted in white aluminium. The winning design called for installation of the towers in the basement floor of the underground car park.
Tight spaces and limited load-bearing capacity in this unusual installation location required precise logistical planning both of the unloading and assembly at the site.
Two pairs of towers were installed with respective heights of 8 and 12 metres and diameters of 1,100 mm. Within the open architecture, they are elegant constructions that blend harmoniously into the spacious design in terms of form and materials.
